Cup nests are the most recognised form in the bird's nest tradition — a complete, naturally bowl-shaped structure formed at the centre of the nest. This Type 87 selection offers clean, well-separated strands with firm, consistent structure and a surface that is largely smooth with a natural gloss. Once rehydrated the strands expand to approximately 6–8 times their dry volume, yielding a rich, full-bodied texture — generally fuller and more pronounced than smaller cup forms due to the greater strand density of larger nests. Natural irregularities may be present at the nest edges — characteristic of the form, not a quality concern.

The large cup form suits shared preparations and celebratory occasions where the richness and volume of the finished dish is the statement.
